Ammonia Refrigeration PSM Plans
Facilities with quantities of hazardous chemicals over OSHA's threshold levels must comply with OSHA's Process Safety Management standard. Among others, PSM applies to facilities with over 10,000 pounds of anhydrous ammonia contained in a refrigeration system. This standard has been required since 1994.
All consultants are not the same.
It really matters who you work with. Most consultants provide boilerplate programs and don't dig into the hard parts. We are experts in refrigeration system compliance and we specialize in the hard parts. We work on standard operating procedures (SOPs), mechanical integrity, code compliance, setting up computerized maintenance scheduling and tracking systems, emergency planning and training and much more. We train maintenance and engineering personnel in PSM compliance and generally accepted good engineering practices to help ensure continuing compliance.
A good PSM program improves plant safety, reduces liabilities, minimizes downtime and reduces exposure to fines. A bad PSM program will make ongoing compliance impossible, will cost a lot of money, and will eventually need to be redone.
